Advice to Travellers - avoid fraud and scams when applying for an ETA Kenya

Since 1 January 2024, Kenya has replaced its visa system with an electronic travel authorisation (eTA). Here are some essential tips to avoid fraud and scams when applying for an eTA for Kenya:

Use the official website or a recognised visa agency

The official website issues the ETA for Kenya, but private visa agencies can help you. Beware of sites that imitate the appearance of the official website.

Recognising fraudulent sites

Here are a few signs that may indicate a fraudulent site:

  • The site offers excessively high prices
  • The site offers a fast turnaround that no other site does
  • There are spelling or grammatical errors
  • The site asks for more information than necessary
  • Payment is not secure

Check information

Before making your request, here is some information to help you recognise a reliable site:

  • Google reviews
  • Contact form at the bottom of the website page
  • Website of your country's embassy in Kenya
  • Website of your country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Reasonable rates

The cost of eTA for Kenya is generally moderate. If a site charges excessive fees, it is probably a scam. Also check that the charges are justified at the time of payment.

Do not communicate sensitive information

Never provide sensitive banking information outside official or secure payment processes. During a secure payment, a new page appears and a double check is carried out (validation of payment by telephone with 3D secure, for example).

Beware of overly tempting offers

If an offer seems too good to be true (such as ultra-fast processing at a low price), you should remain vigilant. In general, the deadlines are similar to those on official websites, where the agency informs you of the deadlines depending on your date of arrival, so that it can offer you a valid document during your stay.

Check contact details

A legitimate site should provide clear and verifiable contact details. Beware of sites that only provide online contact forms.

At the bottom of the page there should be a "contact us" form, information about the company and at least the general terms and conditions of sale.

When in doubt

If you have any doubts, contact the Kenyan embassy in your country directly for information.
