Is there a mobile application for requesting an ETA in Kenya?

Are you planning to travel to Kenya and considering obtaining an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization)? Wondering if there's a mobile app to make this application easier? Here are the various solutions for obtaining the electronic authorisation you need to enter this magnificent African country.

Understanding ETA Kenya and its importance for travellers

The Electronic Travel Authorisation, also known as the ETA Kenya, is a legal requirement for all foreigners wishing to visit Kenya for short stays. Valid for a maximum period of 90 days, it allows you to arrive in Kenya to benefit from visa exemption.

What are the advantages of having an ETA for travelling to Kenya?

  • Saving time: the procedure can be completed entirely online, with no need to travel to a Kenyan consulate or embassy.
  • Simple: it only takes a few minutes to fill in the online form with the required information.
  • Peace of mind: once obtained, the ETA is automatically linked to your passport, so there's no need to forget the document when boarding.

Mobile applications for applying for an ETA in Kenya: myth or reality?

At present, there is a Android mobile application dedicated to ETA application for Kenya. The Kenyan government has announced that it will soon be working on a version for Apple and iOS.

In the meantime, several web platforms have been developed to facilitate these online applications. You can fill in the form and pay the application fee via a secure site. These sites are generally adapted to smartphones and tablets, allowing users to navigate easily and comfortably while making their application.

Beware of online scams and fraud

Beware of platforms that offer a private service for an excessive sum (more than USD 100 for a request!), as these may be attempts at fraud. Only use recognised resources to avoid disappointment.
