ETA fees for Kenya: consular fees and service charges

Planning a trip to Kenya? Obtaining a travel authorisation, also known as an ETA, is a fundamental step in planning your trip. It is therefore essential to know the costs associated with this application. Here is detailed information on how much it costs.

Types of visa and fees

⚠️ Warning: since 1 January 2024, visas are no longer issued for most nationalities and reasons for stay. These rates are therefore given for information only.

There were several options for visiting Kenya, depending on the length and purpose of your stay. Kenya offered different types of visa to travellers depending on their needs:

  • Tourist visa This type of visa is mainly used by tourists wishing to visit Kenya on holiday or to discover its rich culture and history.
  • Business visa Travellers going to Kenya for professional reasons, such as business meetings, conferences or signing contracts with local partners, will need to obtain this type of visa.
  • Medical visa Visa requirements: People who need to travel to Kenya for medical treatment must apply for a visa specifically for this purpose.
  • Transit visa For travellers whose stay in Kenya is only for a short stopover, a transit visa may be required.

Visa application fees varied according to the type and duration of the visa:

  1. Single-entry tourist visa : 50 $ US
  2. Single-entry business visa : 50 $ US
  3. Medical visa : 50 $ US
  4. Multiple-entry tourist or business visa : 100 $ US
  5. Transit visa : 20 $ US

With ETA travel authorisation

The Kenyan government is simplifying the procedure for entering Kenya by abolishing visas but requiring an electronic travel authorisation, the key to travelling to the African country.

The cost of an ETA for Kenya is USD 34.09 (consular fee). Note that service charges may be added if you go through an intermediary. Beware, some services offer prohibitive prices.

Applying for an ETA on arrival in Kenya

It is not possible to obtain an ETA on arrival in Kenya. This document is requested when boarding or at the border, and entitles the holder to travel to Kenya and benefit from visa exemption.
