This issue is of particular concern to travellers who have already obtained a visa for this country and are wondering whether the ETA is also necessary.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Visas for Kenya: general reminders<\/h2>\n<p>First of all, let's briefly go over the rules for obtaining a visa for Kenya. A visa was compulsory to enter Kenya before 1 January 2024 and the global exemption announced by the country. Some travellers applied for a visa before the announcement for a trip planned after 1 January 2024.<\/p>\n<h3>Type of visas available before 1 January :<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Tourist visa<\/li>\n<li>Business Visa<\/li>\n<li>Family visit visa<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have already obtained a visa for Kenya, you should check its validity and ensure that it corresponds to the purpose of your stay.<\/p>\n<h2>ETA: a systematic formality<\/h2>\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><strong>The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)<\/strong> is a document issued by the Kenyan authorities and required by transport companies to board a flight to the country. In a way, it is a prior check that the traveller meets the conditions for entering the country, without needing to present a visa.<\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><strong>The ETA is systematically requested<\/strong>: not being in possession of the ETA can lead to complications when you travel.<\/p>\n<h3>Application and validity of the ETA :<\/h3>\n<p class=\" translation-block\">You can also apply for an ETA online. Once the application has been submitted and accepted, <strong>the ETA is valid for 90 days<\/strong> and notably allows you to benefit from visa exemption on arrival in Kenya. <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>If you already have a valid Kenyan visa, the ETA is not required for your entry into the country<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>Do I need to apply for an ETA in addition to my visa?<\/h2>\n<p>If you already have a valid visa for Kenya corresponding to the nature of your stay, you are not obliged to obtain an ETA as well. Some airlines may automatically require this formality before allowing you to board, without knowing that the authorities have indicated otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>For the sake of peace of mind and comfort during your trip, it may therefore be a good idea to also apply for an ETA from the Kenyan authorities. This is a straightforward process - it can be done entirely online and costs just a few dozen dollars - and it could save you a lot of trouble and disappointment during your stay in Kenya.<\/p>\n<h3>Don't take unnecessary risks:<\/h3>\n<p>Although it is not compulsory to have an ETA in addition to your visa, it is preferable not to take any risks. Imagine arriving at the airport with only your visa and the airline refusing to let you board because you don't have an ETA...
